Unity

harvestdayton

In Jesus’ last prayer, He prayed that all who believed in Him would be one. I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel that many Christians act like they’re part of one body. Actually, I think the opposite is true. This denomination has something against that one, and this church has something against the one down the street. If that’s not bad enough, we do it inside our churches too–This person spreading gossip about another one, and on, and on, and on. Is it any wonder the church is making less and less impact on the world? Statistics show that per capita, less people attend church today than any other time in our nation’s past. When folks do decide to attend a church, they often feel the venomous sting of judgement by its inhabitants, and decide to have nothing to do with God. Unfortunately, it’s not God who’s the problem–it’s the world, and Satan’s influence that’s permeated so many of these so called “Houses of God.” What we need in this nation is a revival–and I’m not talking about any tent meeting. I mean a turning toward God, first as individuals, and then as the Body of Christ. Being “one” doesn’t mean accepting bad doctrine, embracing heresy, or signing accords with non-Christian churches. It means being one “in Christ” with others that are “in Christ.” I, for one, would like to see Christ’s prayer answered. Can you imagine what would happen to this world if we were truly “one”?

“My prayer is not for them [the disciples] alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” Jesus of Nazareth (John 17:20-23)
