Walking in Darkness

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you:  God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”  1 John 1:5 When I was about 10 years old, my parents bought some acreage in the mountains of Washington state.  Until that time, we’d always lived in the city.  I’ll never forgot how beautiful those mountains were and how God’s fingerprints were so obvious in His creation.  There’s only one other thing I vividly remember  about my time living in the mountains.  That is just how dark it would get outside at night.  When the sun goes down and there’s no moon out, it’s so dark you absolutely cannot see anything!  As the saying goes, “You can’t see your hand in front of your face.”  Living in the city as many people do, I don’t think we grasp “darkness” like those who wrote the biblical accounts we read.   When the torch or candle was put out for the evening, they understood darkness for what it truly is–the total absence of light.  I remember having to walk the hundred yards or so from our house to our barn and being so scared I could hardly make my feet move.  I imagined the worst.  Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, I feared “Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!”   Today, my childhood fears of the dark are gone, but I know what it is to walk in darkness.  I also know what it is to walk this earth without the Lord in my life, and, friends, it is every bit as dark as that path to the barn.  There are people all around us every single day that are walking in utter darkness.  They have the beauty and peace of Christ right at their fingertips, but they simply can’t see it for the darkness.  You’ve been given the Light, won’t you share it with them? “I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.”  (Jesus of Nazareth) Acts 26:17b In Christ, PastorJimKilby @Kilbin8er

Scrub Up?

Before I became a Christian, I wanted nothing to do with Christianity or religion!  I just knew I’d have to stop doing all the “fun” things I was doing!  Controlled by the flesh, I had no concept thes

“You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly?” 1 Corinthians 3:3 What a biting indictment from the Apostle Paul. Can you imagine just for a mom

For years now I’ve been learning a little more about Jesus each and every day. I suppose I’ve learned more than the average person, but surely I’ll not understand all of His teachings while I’m in th
