What is Worship?

harvestdayton

I hear a lot of talk about worship experiences these days.  It seems like people are wanting to feel God, to experience His presence in their worship services.  I hear people say they’re going to a “worship service” or to “Sunday morning worship.”  I’ve also heard it in the negative with remarks like, “I didn’t feel like I was able to worship this morning.”  I also want to experience God and to offer up praise and worship to Him, but it seems to me that a lot of focus is being put on what we do in the “church building” vice what we’re doing after we leave the building.  I believe that unless we’re worshiping God every day, in everything we do, we’re really not worshiping Him at all.  He doesn’t need us to feel like we’ve given Him a piece of our Sunday morning.  God doesn’t need anything from us!  Not one single thing!  What He wants is for us to obey His commands.  That’s true worship…  The beneficiary?  It’s us, not Him!

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.”  Romans 12:1

“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord?  To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.”  1 Samuel 15:22
