Which One?

Many people are shocked to learn that about half of Jesus’ time-honored parables spoke of money. Money is neither good or evil, but what it does in the human heart is either one or the other! The heart of the person who loves money will never be a heart fully devoted to God. Probably my favorite example of this “one or the other” theology was proven out by Judas’ betrayal of Jesus. He walked the Earth with Jesus for three years, but when it came right down to it, Judas loved money more than he loved Jesus. He sold his friend for thirty pieces of silver. Money is a “necessary evil” in today’s world, but it must be kept in its proper place. If you are totally without money but have God, you’ll be just fine. If you’re totally without God but have money, you’re destined for an eternity with neither.

“What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you? [said Judas]  So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.”  Matthew 26:15b
