Wickedness!

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.” Jesus of Nazareth (Matthew 23:27-28) You’d have to live under a rock not to have heard about the sexual scandals rocking the Catholic church lately. Priests who molest and permanently scar children stretch a reasonable person’s imagination, but honestly, a worse sin is probably the cover-up by those higher in the church. And what could be worse than that? Possibly the hierarchy who puts the same people back into positions where they can victimize more children. To be fair, the Catholic church is only the lightening rod at the moment. There probably isn’t a single Christian denomination with any real size that hasn’t had some similar type of problem somewhere. Whether it’s church leaders, pastors, priests, or just your run of the mill churchgoer, the same principles hold true every single time. Satan is a deceiver, and sin always works best in the dark. If the leaders in the Catholic church would have let the “light” shine on these terrible sins generations ago, children could have been spared, faith would have been built rather than destroyed, and all of Christianity could have been spared this hellish black mark. And if there’s anything for average Joe’s like you and me to learn from this type of insanity, it’s this. Whenever we encounter sin (especially in our own lives), it needs to be exposed for what it is. It will never get any better until we confess it and let the Truth of God shine on it.
“He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” Proverbs 28:13
