Bereans?

“Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.  Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see…”  Ecclesiastes 11:9

The Bible is a remarkable book, filled with not only good things, but perfect things–the only truth worth resting your hope on!  That notwithstanding, evil, and men doing the work of the evil one, never cease to distort the Word of the Lord for their own gain.  Like the passage above, just about anything can be taken out of context and distorted by self-serving jackals.  To prove my point, here’s the ending to the verse above…

“…but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgement.”

Whenever you see a verse standing alone, if it sounds even remotely unlike the nature of God, look it up and read it for yourself.  Read the verses before it, and those after it as well.  Everything must be taken in context with the remainder of the Bible.  I recommend getting a Bible commentary if you don’t have one, or a study Bible with commentary included like I have.  Be like the Bereans before us… how difficult would if be to lead these folks astray?

“Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”  Acts 17:11
