But God . . .

“Everything is against me!”  Genesis 42:36b

Remember the Old Testament hero Joseph?  He was sold as a slave, thought dead by his father, framed for attempted rape, wrongly imprisoned, and through it all remained faithful to God.  Due in no small part to thinking two of his sons were dead, Joseph’s father, Jacob, made that tearful statement (above).  I bet we’ve all felt that way at one time or another.

Reading through the story of Joseph’s life, it did seem like everything was against Jacob.  In reality though, God was using these very difficulties to save the family from certain death.  As God’s plan is finally revealed, listen to Joseph’s words to the brothers who sold him into slavery:

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”  Genesis 50:20

But God!  But God!  It simply defies reason…  No matter what you’re going through, no matter how difficult it is, God’s word tells us to hang-on to our faith.  You work on being faithful to God and He’ll take care of everything else!

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him who have been called according to his purpose.”  Romans 8:28
