Think for a minute… how many people do you know right now who are taking antidepressant drugs? If you’re a teen, it may be a lot more than you think, and you probably could name several. The statistics are clear. The use of antidepressants is on the rise. A full 25% of people will face some serious depression from time-to-time and many will seek medical attention. What’s unfortunate is that many will not seek help; choosing to suffer in silence. Many will also loose faith, some even taking their own lives. I’ve not been given to huge mood swings and bouts of depression in my life, but I’ve been down enough times to know how it feels. It’s during these times that we often are not thinking clearly, and are generally not thinking beyond the next few hours. If you have bouts of depression, please know that you are far from alone no matter how it seems. There is nothing wrong with talking to a counselor or even seeking medical attention. The Lord also has good news for you. He is still on the throne, and He still loves you regardless of what you may be thinking about yourself at the moment. The Scriptures tell us to “persevere.” If you can only persevere one moment at a time, that’s fine! Persevere! And know that you are loved!
“As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.” James 5:11
