I get a lot of mail from teens (and adults too!), but most all of them could be put into the “why is God doing this to me?” category. Generally even a casual observer can tell it’s not God doing anything to them, but rather what they’ve done to themselves coming back to haunt them. Sometimes though it’s something quite different. Every once in a while I get the feeling that God is breaking someone so He can use them more effectively. Generally it will be someone with a very close walk with the Lord who is now wondering “why?” and thinking God’s not being fair! Sometimes their relationships are breaking up, other times they’re losing their jobs or their possessions. If I learn that they’ve professed to have given their lives to Christ, I might ask them if they’ve prayed to God for Him to use them lately? If so, then I point out that the “why” is possibly because God is answering their prayer! But… before He can use anyone, He’s got to get whatever they’re hanging onto with both hands stripped out of their life! After that, they’ll have two open hands He can readily use!
