Finding Strength In Weakness

Have you ever felt like you were in the presence of evil?  I know it’s hard to put your finger on something like that, but I believe I’ve been there a time or two.  Not so long ago, I met an man who claimed to be a Christian.  His frequent comments about the “Lord” notwithstanding, whenever I was around him an unmistakable feeling of danger kept coming over me.  Again and again I felt the Holy Spirit nudging me, urging caution, heightening my sense of awareness to an unprecedented level.  Feeling powerless on one hand, while on the other hand I felt more securely wrapped in the Lord’s protection than I ever had before.  It was like standing in an inferno, fully clothed in a fireman’s suit.  I’ve never felt closer to the Lord at any time in my life.  Later, as I pondered what had happened and why the Lord allowed such an experience to occur, this scripture seemed to speak to me:

But he said to me, “My  grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.  2 Corinthians 12:9-10
