I know Jesus said that it was better to give than to receive, but when I was young I thought it was just crazy! Getting just had to be better than giving! Christmas Day? Birthdays? As an adolescent, I thought those days were tailor made for getting stuff! I was selfish, and self-centered. As an adult I’ve learned that Jesus was right on the money. As far as receiving gifts, there’s hardly anything I could want that I don’t already have. What’s more, if I don’t have it, I probably wouldn’t miss it! Giving has taken on a whole new meaning for me now that I’ve got people that I love in my life. I’ve found that giving to my wife, children, and even complete strangers makes me feel alive inside! Doing things for people who could in no way do anything back for me is the greatest of all. Maybe that’s just a little of what God was trying to get across the multitude of times He tells us to think of others before ourselves. And maybe that’s just a small window into how He thinks about us.
“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4
