My siblings and I had it pretty tough when we were young. With drugs, alcohol and worse running through our home, we grew up pretty quick! As the oldest, I sometimes think I was effected by it more than the others. Surely, I was the first to follow the example set before me. My heart became as hard as a rock. For years after I left home there wasn’t a thing that would have made me cry a single tear. Eventually, my own drug use and life of indulgence made my heart even harder than ever. One of the greatest miracles God ever brought to my life was the slow but methodical softening of my soul. His Spirit has returned love, emotion and yes, even tears to my life! Now just watching one of my children sleep can make me cry like a baby! Sin is a dangerous thing for more reasons than I can tell you, but this I’ll tell you for sure. As pleasurable as sin may be for a season, the hardness if brings to your heart can be fatal.
“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts…” Hebrews 3:7b-8
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26
