Remember the Height

I don’t know what it is about some church-goers, or about some whole churches, but it seems like some people can get a little crotchety after a few years. While it can definitely be irritating to those around them, it doesn’t appear that most of these folks even know their doing it. It doesn’t seem to be age specific, either. Sometimes, I feel like asking them why they even bother coming–they don’t look like their having much fun at it! Still, from the Scriptures telling of Jesus’ satisfactions and dissatisfactions with the early churches, it looks like this stuff has been going on a long time! Christ’s advice is surely just as good today as ever.

“You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand [witness] from its place.” Jesus of Nazareth (Revelation 2:3-5)

This is something we all need to guard against. Remembering where we would be without our precious Lord’s grace should help.

In Christ,
