These days it would be about impossible to find a person who hasn’t heard the phrase, “Take responsibility for your actions.” It seems like just about everyone is “pro responsibility” these days (with the obvious political exceptions). Fathers need to take responsibility for their illegitimate or abandoned children, criminals need to take responsibility for their victim’s sufferings, even drunks need to “drink responsibly”, and, as I read the other day, “We all need to act responsibly toward our planet.” Although I can’t argue with any of those statements, I still wonder, haven’t they forgotten the most important part? Whether we want to be or not, we ARE responsible! Not only that, we will be HELD responsible–for every action and every word!
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10
“But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.” Matthew 12:36
