The Pursuit of “Stuff!”

What kind of house do you live in? What type of car do you drive? Do you go to private school, or do your children go to the most expensive school in town? Are they wearing the “perfect” designer clothes? As silly as this may sound, our whole nation seems to be working for the bigger house, the better car, and on and on! I wonder; where does it stop? And where does God come in? Isn’t it ironic that “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” immediately follow the day set aside to give thanks to God for our abundance? When God calls Christians to be counter-culture that includes our pursuit of personal wealth (beyond that which will reasonably provide for our children and our children’s children). I’ve heard it said that you can immediately tell what a person’s priorities are by watching where they spend their time, and then by taking a quick look through their checkbook. If your real priorities are getting more “stuff” you’re priorities are in the wrong place.

“Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” John 6:27
