Not so many years ago I found myself in one of the most difficult situations I’ve ever been in. Making it all the worse was the fact that it involved one of my children. Without being too descriptive, let’s just say one of my babies was in trouble, and I had absolutely no doubt what the Lord would have me do. I had to fight for my child! The problem was that most of the relatives (the non-Christian ones) and plenty of teachers, accountants and all around bureaucrats said that I was wrong. It got to the point where we were actually hated by some for the stance we took, even getting nasty mail and such. I only had my wife and Jesus Christ to lean on. We learned more about prayer during those excruciating days than any other time in our lives. In the end, the Lord vindicated our every action and things worked out well for the family. It’s almost funny, when we look back at those days, if it weren’t for the Lord, we would have been absolutely powerless to help. It was also at that point in our lives where we still look back and remember the Lord’s hand in our lives like never before. In our desperate attempts to gain control of every situation we come across, will we ever learn that our weakness is His opportunity to demonstrate His power and His love?
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
