Witnessing or Preaching

Those of you who read my daily “Thoughts” will no doubt know I’m quite interested in evangelism. My heart goes out to those folks who are lost — facing all eternity separate from God. Still, as much a I share the gospel, I know this to be true. Only when a person wants to know the truth can you effectively share it with him/her. Until they have a desire to know the answers your words sound like preaching. These words are almost always heard as words of judgement meant to stimulate guilt.. and they express not love, but rejection. Share the gospel as much as you can… but don’t ram it down anyone’s throat! It’s the Holy Spirit that does the piercing of the heart. Once a person is searching for truth, then you’ll be able to lead them to eternal life.

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.” Titus 3:5-7
