Work for Who?

Have you ever felt the gentle urging of God, immediately followed by the obnoxious, “You can’t do that!” of Satan?  It took years for me to finally accept the fact that God could use a sinner like me to do His work.  Every time I would feel His Spirit tugging me toward a life of service, it wouldn’t be long before I’d get those not so gentle reminders that I was, as the Apostle Paul once noted of himself, “the chief of sinners.”  For me, the realization that God was calling me had several phases, but finally it became unmistakable.  My note is not to convey anything special about myself, but rather to build you up if you’ve been where I’ve been.  Often times, I found myself looking at priests and pastors, or some of my “super-Christian” friends and thinking, I don’t measure up to these “giants” of the faith.  Slowly, though, I began to understand that even the strongest person is, at their very core, a sinner just like the rest of us.  Absolutely everyone has doubts.  Absolutely everyone struggles with something–absolutely no one is exempt!  My point is also not to lower the standard of righteousness, but to point out that God’s work is not about US, or what we can accomplish, but rather about GOD and what He can accomplish through us.  He created us, chose us before the beginning of time, sacrificed His Son to save our souls, sustains our very life with breath… need I go on?  If He, in His almighty wisdom, is calling you to join His team–only the enemy would benefit from you not listening!

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  Ephesians 2:10
