It seems like the whole world is looking for a diversion from the stress and strain of life. Some are turning to drugs or alcohol, others to sex or to food, and some to drastic measures like suicide. Jesus spoke of days like these in one of the last lessons He taught before His crucifixion…
“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighted down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. For it will come upon those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:34-36
In the days before I met my Lord and Savior, I either tried, or came close to trying just about every worldly “stress reliever” there was. None of them ever worked for long! In my Bible I’ve got two words of the above lesson circled in pen. They help me remember my priorities, and for me, they’re the most effective stress relief I’ve ever found! Oh, the two words… “and pray”.
